Established as La Nouvelle-Orléans by Jean-Baptiste Le Moyne de Bienville in 1718 along the Mississippi River, the French Quarter is about 85 square miles of antique buildings of Spanish style and French-named streets offering visitors lodging, restaurants, bars, galleries and gift shops.
